Emergency procedures

Know the exits, know the codes, know your role. You are expected to be fluent in these on day one — not after your first drill.

Emergency codes

  • Code Red — fire or smoke
  • Code Blue — adult medical emergency
  • Code Gray — combative or threatening person
  • Code Silver — weapon or active shooter
  • Code Pink — infant or child abduction
  • Code Green — evacuation

Fire response — RACE

  • Rescue anyone in immediate danger
  • Alarm — pull the nearest pull station, dial the emergency line
  • Contain — close doors and windows
  • Extinguish or Evacuate based on size and your training

Active threat: Run, Hide, Fight — in that order

If you can leave safely, leave. If you cannot, lock and barricade the door, silence devices, and stay out of sight. Fight only as a last resort. Call 911 the moment it is safe to do so.
